LARRY HUNTER ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY FOR
STATE REPRESENTATIVE, DISTRICT 19

Vidor, TX        Larry Hunter, of Vidor, Texas, announced his candidacy for State Representative of District 19.  Surrounded by family, friends and supporters he made the announcement today at the Brown Center of Lamar State College in Orange, Texas.

Mr. Hunter will file for the Democratic Party Primary election to be held on March 3, 2008 with the General Election in November 2008.  Filing for the Democratic Party Primary elections begins Monday, December 3, with the final day to file being January 2, 2008.

A life long resident of Orange County, Mr. Hunter is the managing partner of the law firm of Hunter Burch, L.L.P., in Vidor, Texas, and has practiced law in Southeast Texas for over 30 years.  He and his wife, Becky, are the parents of Melissa and Grant, and Grant and his wife, Catherine, have two children.  Larry and Becky Hunter are the proud grandparents of Madison and Taft.  Mr. Hunter is a 1973 graduate of Lamar University, Beaumont with a degree in government, and a 1976 graduate of The University of Houston with a doctor of jurisprudence degree from the Bates College of Law.  Mr. Hunter was licensed to practice law by the Texas Supreme Court on June 10, 1977.

Having been elected to a number of offices, he knows the value of public service and knows the hard work required for success in government.  Hunter served as Mayor of Vidor, President of the Board of Directors of the Orange County Water Control and Improvement District No.1, and as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Vidor Independent School District.

Hunter has deep roots in the district and has previously been appointed as Municipal Judge and later the City Attorney of Rose City Texas, Counsel for Orange County Rural Fire Prevention District, and Counsel for the Southeast Texas Regional Planning Commission, which serves Hardin, Jefferson and Orange counties.

“I look forward to talking with the people of this district about what’s important to them, their current needs, and how I can better represent them to address such needs.” said Hunter. “There are important issues concerning our district and they need to be addressed and satisfied, not just talked about.  This is my home, I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and work for the public good.

“There is a great economic opportunity in southeast Texas which is in the initial stages and will continue for the next decade.  I want to make sure we capitalize on opportunities including jobs, education, technical schools, housing, healthcare and security.  I have talked with and met many local leaders who agree we need to focus on the priorities affecting the hardworking men and women in our community.  To take full advantage of the opportunities which lay ahead and to protect the natural resources which make our district special will take strong, educated, and hardworking representation.  We need a respected voice at the state level with balanced representation.

Texas House District 19 is compiled of Hardin, Newton and the majority of Orange County, Texas.
